The Robbinsville Public School District is proud to offer the community a 5 day (2.5 hours),collaborative preschool program, serving 3, 4 and 5 year old children.Note:Students must be 3 years old by Oct. 1, 2016, and be potty-trained to begin.Students may enroll though out the year depending upon having space available in the program. SPROWTS is a developmentally oriented program based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for preschool. The class will consist of typically developing children and children with developmental challenges, learning together in a structured and enriched environment.
The program is staffed with certified preschool and special education teachers as well as paraprofessionals as needed.
The SPROWTS program structure is similar to a typical preschool experience, as the teaching of developmentally appropriate skill areas is embedded throughout the school day.
The SPROWTS program curriculum is Tools of the Mind. Tools of the Mind is a research-based early childhood program that builds strong foundations for school success by promoting intentional and self-regulated learning in preschool- and kindergarten-aged children.Tools’instructional philosophy is inspired by the work of Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky and his students, and at the same time, is rooted in cutting edge neuropsychological research on the development of self-regulation/executive functions in children. The central focus of Tools of the Mind is the development of both cognitive and social-emotional self-regulation at the same time that academic skills are taught.
Tools of the Mind, consistent with Vygotskian pedagogy, aims to scaffold children so they can act as “masters of their own behavior.” As a result, Tools children learn and behave differently and are less dependent on common classroom and behavior management tactics, such as rewards and punishments. In turn, children’s self-regulated classroom behaviors translate into their academic and transform the way they act at home.
“Tools”is designed as a core curriculum that works for all children including those with identified special needs. Its activities are multi-level so instruction is individualized within the design of each activity. Ability grouping is not used to individualize instructions. Specific scaffolds for children with special needs are written into each activity. In addition, alignments are developed that ensure that instruction matches end of the year district benchmarks and standards.
Tools is designed to be implemented in both full- and half-day preschool programs and specialized training is given to ensure classroom teachers and special needs staff work together in a coordinated manner.
The program meets five days/week for two and half hours per day at Sharon Elementary School.Three year olds meet from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM and four year olds meet from 12:45 to 3:15 PM.The cost of the program is $3500 per school year.Transportation is not included for typically developing students.Parents must provide copies of current physical examination and immunization records along with registration. Please include a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 with your application to secure your membership.Details about tuition payment will be mailed along with acceptance to the program.
