April 17, 2020: Update

April 17, 2020

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Yesterday Governor Murphy announced that all New Jersey Public Schools will be closed until at least May 15th.  He indicated that he remains hopeful schools can reopen after May 15 but, once again, we will need to patiently move through this next month of remote learning.  As we do so, we will continue to communicate with you and provide technical and instructional support so that all students will be able to maximize their remote learning experience.

Here are some important dates to remember:

Today, April 17th: Marking Period 3 ends. Monday, April 20th, Marking Period 4 begins.
Genesis

As a reminder: at 3:00 PM today, access to Genesis will be turned off for parents and students to allow teachers time to enter grades for Marking Period 3. Parent / student access will resume on Wednesday, April 22nd at 3:00 PM when all grades have been entered. Building principals will be sending out information next week regarding the schedule and grading procedures for Marking Period 4.

Keeping Our Spirits Up

As our shelter-in-place is extended, it's important to continue to promote positive mental health. Helping each other will make our community stronger. Here are few reminders from our guidance department on how to continue to practice self care and support your children:

  • Keep a regular routine
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Exercise
  • Eat well
  • Be a role model for your children Practice physical distancing as you connect online with your family and friends
  • Continue to reassure your children they are safe
  • Limit exposure to news coverage
  • Let your children talk about their worries
  • Plan fun activities such as participating in our district-wide Spirit Week activities

We understand you may have many unanswered questions regarding end-of-the-year events. Please know we are working behind the scenes to design alternatives, if necessary, so we can honor and celebrate our students’ accomplishments as the school year draws to a close.

As always, we thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kathie Foster, Superintendent
